Greenfield's first-ever soapbox race will be held on Nash Mill Road at the Greenfield Recreation area and "swimming pool" on Sunday, September 12th. The first race will start at noon. The event is a fundraiser for the Greenfield Skate Park, through Friends of Greenfield Recreation who do fundraising support for the Greenfield Rec Department. Revenue will be generated by donations, sponsors, vendors, and racers. Racers will bring their homemade carts to the hill and compete for best time trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in three divisions: kids, teens and adults. There will also be awards for creative style. Racers must be at least 8 years old on race day, and adults are encouraged to enter as well. Carts may be entered by individuals as well as local organizations and businesses. Sponsoring carts is allowed and teams are encouraged. Application forms and full racer rules can be found on the derby's website: GreenfieldSoapboxRaces.com
