Many forms of fine craft and art leave the artist with leftover pieces of materials. Painters paint over old canvases; weavers may have extra warp cloth; mixed media artists have leftover paper scraps, beach-combed treasures or fabric scraps; potters may have small pieces of clay; etc. Visit Sawmill River Arts Gallery on Sunday, May 5 between Noon and 6 p.m. to learn from individual artists how they “waste not, want not” and make something of your own to bring home.
Our cooperative gallery, located at an historic mill next to a flowing waterfall, a used bookstore, and two waterfront restaurants, is regularly staffed by member artists who share in all aspects of gallery operations and management. Demonstrations during gallery hours are out of the ordinary and a great opportunity for visitors to talk to us, learn about our craft, and about what it is like being a working artist in rural western Massachusetts.
