Conway Festival of the Hills
The Conway Festival of the Hills, one of the hilltowns’ oldest fall festivals, is almost here. The festival will be, Sunday, October 6, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., rain or shine at the town field in historic Conway center. The festival, recognized as a Library of Congress “Local Legacy” in Western Massachusetts, is an all-volunteer event that raises scholarship money for the town’s high school graduates. Festival goers can enjoy a wide range of exhibits, activities, and demonstrations, including live music, a craft fair, blacksmithing, weaving, food vendors, local products, the famed log splitting contest and skillet toss, and of course, freshly pressed cider and fried dough with maple cream. As always there will be lots of free activities for kids and tweens. Admission, parking, and almost all festival activities are free of charge. In addition to the festival on Sunday, there is a full weekend of activities, including art exhibits, a book sale, turkey dinner, and the Covered Bridge Classic road race and Kid’s 1.7 mile Fun Run. The fee for the 10K is $20, with fun local prizes in eight divisions. The 1.7 miler (14 and under) fee: is $5, with handmade medals for all finishers! Online registration for the race is at: Runreg.com, through October 5. You can also register on the day of the race, October 6, in front of Conway’s Field Memorial Library until 9:40am. A complete schedule of weekend activities, course maps and other detailed information will be available at festivalofthehills.com. You can also find the festival on Facebook.
