Learning Tree Bark
Have you ever looked at a tree in winter and wondered what it might be? For nearly half the year, bark provides the best clue to tree ID. Become familiar with the characteristic bark of different trees in different habitats and at a different stage of growth. Bring binoculars, water and the book Bark by Michael Wojtech if you have a copy. This will not be a fast walk. Dress accordingly and bring plenty of water and snacks – we will not be stopping for lunch. Notes/Directions: We will be meeting at the Notch visitor center off rte. 116 in Amherst. This can be reached by going south from Atkins Farm. The parking area is at the top of the hill on the east side of the road which is the left hand side coming from Amherst center. http://greenfieldcc.3dcartstores.com/Learning-Tree-Bark_p_1488.html
