Visit to Saint-Gaudens and the American Precision Museum
Saturday, 9/22, 8:00 am–5:00 pm. The bus will leave the GCC Main Campus by 8am and arrive at Saint-Gaudens by 9:15am. Bring a blanket & picnic lunch! Oh yes, and a camera or sketch pad, too! The grounds are lovely and the mountains should have some patches of Fall color. Sept. 22nd is a special day at the park with sculpture demonstrations and artist booths. On our return trip we will stop at the American Precision Museum (APM) in Windsor, VT. APM highlights the technological revolution and the "machines that have shaped our world." The 1846 Robbins & Lawrence Armory is another National Historic Landmark with a working demonstration machine shop. The bus will return to GCC by 5pm. From the Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site website: "Step into the world of one of America’s greatest artists. Discover the home, studios and gardens of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, one of America’s greatest sculptors. See over 100 of his artworks in the galleries and on the grounds, from heroic public monuments to expressive portrait reliefs, and the gold coins which changed the look of American coinage." From the American Precision Museum website: “The Museum preserves the heritage of the mechanical arts, celebrates the ingenuity of our mechanical forebears, and explores the effects of their work on our everyday lives. The American Precision Museum, housed in the original Robbins & Lawrence Armory, now holds the largest collection of historically significant machine tools in the nation.” http://greenfieldcc.3dcartstores.com/Visit-to-Saint-Gaudens-and-the-American-Precision-Museum_p_1556.html
